Honouring Change: A Solstice Reflection and Mid-Year Pause.
This weekend holds a lot of significance.
Saturday marked the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, when the sun pauses at its highest point, a natural moment for stillness and reflection.
It was also International Yoga Day, another chance to honour how these incredible practices help so many of us navigate the ebb and flow of life with a little more calm and presence.
And for me personally, Sunday was my birthday. Another year around the sun.
Maybe that’s why I’ve found myself in a more reflective mood than usual. But I don’t think it’s just me, this midpoint in the year seems to hold significance for many of us.
It’s a quiet nudge to take stock:
-
How am I really doing?
-
Am I living in alignment with the intentions I set at the start of the year?
-
Or have I let the enthusiasm quietly fade and slipped back into old habits?
Life has a way of pulling us back into the familiar rhythm of “just getting on with things.” But lately, I’ve noticed a few gentle reminders showing up — nudging me back toward what I said I wanted to shift, what I wanted to prioritise.
This halfway point in the year really does feel like another invitation to pause, tune in, and listen.
A Solstice Reflection
It takes me back to this same time 11 years ago, when I was in the first module of my Yogic Studies residential. I was in the midst of some big life changes.
I’d recently stepped away from my corporate career and into freelancing, giving myself more space to study yoga and, eventually, share these practices that had supported me through so much – burnout, anxiety, sleep issues, and the general pressure of a high-stress work life.
Importantly, I’d started to get to know myself again. And once that shift happened, the path ahead became so much clearer:
I wanted to teach Yoga and Meditation.
Even though I felt sure about my choices, there were still moments of nerves, uncertainty, and the occasional wobble.
On the morning of my birthday, I passed the board where they listed our daily schedule. And next to it, as always, was a small inspirational quote.
But that day, the words really landed:
You are full of energy. Use it in the service of others, raise their consciousness level and live to make the world a better place.”
Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati
Call it a sign, a message, or just perfect timing, for me, it was the reminder I needed.
To say: Yes. You’re on the right path.
Find a Mindful Moment This Week
This week, perhaps you can find a quiet moment to ask yourself:
-
How do I feel in my life right now?
-
What’s one thing I’ve been wanting to shift or come back to?
-
Where am I spending my energy, and is it aligned with what really matters to me?
